Will Johnston "Grand Rond De Jambe Jump" - Contemporary Online Dance Class/Choreography Tutorial

This advanced progression phrase involves both linear and vertical momentum and energy. It challenges the dancer to incorporate both style and technique into the movement. It encourages the practice of loosing ones center and then immediately gaining back stability.

Notes
  • On the grand rond de jambe jump, be sure to have the arms open up through the chest and out beyond your back. This minimal hyper-extension of the shoulder will exaggerate the height and sustainment of your jump.
  • On the tilt flick, be sure to stabilize the supporting as much as possible. This will help isolate the flick off the left leg and avoid any other part of your body moving. Isolation is key in centering an audience members focus on a specific movement detail.
  • When moving the arms up and over the top of the head, be aware of the height of your arms. You do not want them to be too high, but rather skimming the surface of your head. This will exaggerate the roll to standing position much more.
  • When rolling up through standing position, be sure to focus on articulating every part of the back. When we roll up, we initiate from the pelvis tipping, then through the lower back, to mid, to upper, and finally finishing through the neck and head.
