Anh Dillon "Ballet Barre Beg #1" - Ballet Online Dance Class

A beginner ballet class, with barre work only, for students with established basic knowledge of ballet steps and terminology.

Notes
  • Before starting any exercise, go through a mental checklist for your posture: hip rotation, neutral pelvis, lifted stomach, wide back, relaxed shoulders, and engaged latissimus dorsi muscles.
  • When doing pliés, always check that your little toe is on the floor. If it isn't, you may either need to rotate more in your hip sockets, which will help push the knee back and flatten your foot on the floor, or you may need to close your turnout slightly in order to avoid pronation.
  • Tendus in 5th: aim to achieve a smooth coordinated action of bending or straightening both legs at the same time.
  • Dégagés: keep the leg light when doing dégagé piqué. The accent should be out and away, not down to the floor.
  • Adage: start with battements fondus at 45 degrees, focusing on the coordination of the legs when bending and straightening, and keeping hips leveled. Then when you are more comfortable, feel free to take your leg higher, or/and add arm coordination.
