Alex Little "Pirouette With Floor Work" - Lyrical Online Dance Class/Choreography Tutorial

While working on your pirouettes, I want to introduce a way to start combining floor rolls within a 2 count of eight combination that changes from right to left. This exercise utilizes your pliƩ, pressure into the floor, and asks you to also begin exploring weight changes. Start at a slow tempo and increase the speed with your comfort.

Notes
  • When you have the opportunity to jump from one side to the other, try to cover as much ground as possible, while staying in pliĆ©. This will build your strength and your center.
  • After your second jump to the side on count "6" slide the right foot back and out so that you have a strong base for your pirouette. (If you only slide it back, it will be too narrow for you.)
  • When you take your body down to the floor and extend the left leg out make sure to lower your body even more because I want your to roll on your back. To do this well, keep your chin to your chest and keep the right arm connected to the floor as you roll for momentum.
  • Try the whole combination on the left side after you rise off the floor!
