This exercise focuses on the deep plie squats and lunging extensions commonly used in bollywood. It will challenge you to utilize strong core muscles. The added level of intricacy is provided by adding hands that move through classical handgestures in rapid succession. The roots of this exercise are in Indian classical and folk dances.

Shivani Thakkar is an internationally recognized choreographer, dancer, master teacher, and actor. Notable performance and choreography credits include Hollywood Bowl Summer Sounds, Disney’s Step Up 3-D, Bellydance Superstars’ Bombay Bellywood Japan Tour, Canadian tour of Dvaya: A Confluence of Male Female Spirits, Girish Karnad’s Naga Mandala, TV appearances on New Girl, Valentine, Big Time Rush, NFL Madden, Bollywood films including Chance Pe Dance and works in numerous dance festivals and at various museums including the Los Angeles County Museum of Arts, the Smithsonian, Skirball Cultural Center and Glenbow. She has served on the jury for numerous funding bodies including, at the National level, Canada Council for the Arts. She is the artistic director of MKM Bollystars Dance Company, has hosted and assisted eminent Bollywood choreographer Saroj Khan in her Southern California tour, and teaches on faculty at AMDA LA.read more
