Joelle Martinec "Standing Contractions" - Lyrical Online Dance Class Exercise

This exercise will get your stomach and spine to work together. Connect your breath with each movement to create a cohesive, liquid feel to the movement. This was a foundation exercise in my training, which helped me find the most amount of movement in my upper body.

Notes
  • Make sure there is always expansion before your contraction. Take a nice big inhale before you start to bring the movement inward.
  • A contraction is the tightening of a muscle, not necessarily the rounding of the shoulders. I like to keep my upper body open and lifted during this series of movements.
  • Making sure the knees stay over the toes in the upper body release in 2nd position parallel.
