Anh Dillon "Ballet Barre Beg #2" - Ballet Online Dance Class

A beginner ballet class, with barre work only, for students with established basic knowledge of ballet steps and terminology. This barre focuses primarily on weight transitions in various forms.

Notes
  • Before starting any exercise, go through a mental checklist for your posture: hip rotation, neutral pelvis, lifted stomach, wide back, relaxed shoulders, and engaged latissimus dorsi muscles.
  • This barre focuses primarily on weight transitions in various forms (i.e. temps lié, chassés à terre, alternating legs). Pay attention as to when to distribute your weight equally on both legs and when to shift it from one to the other leg.
  • Pliés: when in 4th position, make sure not to let your back knee collapse, keep the rotation equal on both legs.
  • Slow Tendus: for the chassés, maintain the same deep demi-plié through the weight change.
  • Tendus: in the temps lié, your weight is entirely on one leg, when doing tendu, then is centered between both legs during the plié, then shifts entirely on the 2nd leg.
  • Dégagés: the weight transition happens when closing in 5th position. The moment you close the dégagé à la 2de, your weight moves onto the closing leg, so you can freely disengage the other leg.
  • Fondus: aim to get your entire weight onto the front leg after the chassé, so that later instead of holding the leg à la 4ème derrière, then lifting into an arabesque, you can go straight from the chassé into an arabesque without having to readjust your placement.
  • Grands Battements: after all the good work yo've put into  transfering your weight from one leg to the other, it should be easier to do the last grands battements away from the barre.
